Overview

Banbridge District Council has a statutory responsibility under the Recreation and Youth Service (NI) Order 1973, which states that ‘each Council will provide adequate facilities for social, physical, cultural and sporting activities’.

The aim of the Events section within Banbridge District Council is: “to develop and facilitate a vibrant events culture, enriching the quality of life in the District of Banbridge”.

The aim of the Council is to provide support, both financial and practical to event organisers, staging events in the Banbridge district - to any type of event attracting the public, whether it is a musical event, street party, funfair, parade, carnival, sporting activity, fete, exhibition or community festival.

Types of groups eligible

  • Community groups
  • Urban and Rural groups
  • Arts and Cultural groups
  • Sporting organisations
  • Event organising bodies

There is no fixed level of assistance which Banbridge District Council can offer to a project. Each case will be assessed and negotiated individually. Grant awards under the Events programme are usually modest [very] in size.

In assessing the impact of an event Banbridge District Council will take into consideration key factors such as appeal of event, accessibility of venue/location, ticket price, disabled access and event/venue perception.
