Balance Foundation: Grants programme for older people
Overview
Balance launched its grant making programme in 2005 with the aim of making a positive contribution to the work of national, local and regional charities which are dealing with this important area of public concern.
What the programme will fund in 2006
They welcome applications which have an overriding focus on disadvantaged older people over 75. They will be interested in applications which focus on some or all of the following criteria:
- innovative solutions, including housing, which enable older people themselves to retain a quality of life
- supportive approaches at the end-of-life which are valued by older people and their relatives (excluding medical programmes)
- approaches to improving communication between carers, older people and local support services
- the promotion of positive mental health
- the provision of financial information and advice
Trustees will be particularly pleased to see:
- work which shows real evidence of intergenerational and wider community involvement
- the participation of older people in the design and running of the project
They will consider applications which include a realistic element of the applicant organisation’s core costs, but will not fund full cost recovery.
(In this round the trustees will not be considering applications concerned with advocacy and general advice on behalf of older people as the awards in 2005 focused strongly on these areas and trustees now wish to widen their support to other areas).
Applications are eligible from registered charities working in the UK. The Foundation will not support work which is a statutory responsibility.
Applications will be considered for grants which range from £20,000 to £80,000, with grant payments phased over up to three years.
How to apply
Having achieved its primary objective, demonstrating proof of concept, Balance has now ceased operations and the grants are being administered by the Clore Duffield Foundation.
